Calls for DCP Khalid’s sacking over Kugan case condemned
KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Chief Police Officer Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar who has been criticised by several politicians over the A. Kugan case has found support from at least 21 Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).
About 50 people from the NGOs, mainly from Puchong, the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF), the MCA Public Services and Complaints Department, and Selangor Justice of Peace Council, condemned all those who criticised and demanded DCP Khalid’s sacking.
“Khalid is a person who is dedicated, fair, brave, considerate, professional and very responsible. He has an excellent relationship with the public and has increased the quality of the police force through various campaigns and programmes.
“We urge the Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan to not to entertain calls made by certain parties who want DCP Khalid removed over Kugan’s death,” said the group’s legal adviser Datuk Theng Book who together with the NGOs handed over a memorandum to Musa supporting DCP Khalid yesterday.
The group arrived at Bukit Aman at about 2.30pm and handed over the memorandum to public relations officer DSP Lai Lee Ching.
Kugan, 22, who was arrested on Jan 14 on suspicion of involvement in a car theft syndicate, collapsed and died in the police station during interrogation on Jan 20.
Police who questioned him have recovered at least 19 luxury cars.
