Blogger's trial set for Oct 20

SEREMBAN: The trial of blogger Khairulnizam Abdul Ghani, who allegedly insulted the late sultan of Johor on his blog, has been set for three days hearing in October.
Sessions Court judge Zamri Bakar fixed three days from Oct 20 for the trial.
Khairulnizam, 29, was charged with insulting the late Sultan Iskandar Sultan Ismail on his blog adukataruna.blogspot.com.my.
He was charged with using a communication network or application service to knowingly upload the posting on his blog, with the intention to hurt the royal institution, between 7.25pm and 9.05pm on Jan 22.
The computer technician is accused of improper use of network facilities or a network service as provided for under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588).
If convicted, Khairulnizam is liable to a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment of up to one year.
Khairulnizam was represented by Mohd Radzlan Jalaludin while deputy public prosecutor Masri Mohd Daud prosecuted.
